VIDEO: Crash reconstruction investigation at scene of wrong way crash that killed both drivers on Route 53 between Kirchoff Road and Euclid Avenue near Rolling Meadows.
Rolling Meadows police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:55 AM Tuesday to a report of crash with injuries at 42.084030, -88.030845 (NB Route 53 and Kirchoff Rd Rolling Meadows, Il). Police and firefighter/paramedics initially received a report of a multiple-vehicle pileup with a wrong way driver on northbound Route 53 between Kirchoff Road and Euclid Avenue.
The crash was later reported as a two-vehicle crash.
Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that one person was trapped in each vehicle — an American Taxi van and a yellow “sedan”. Both drivers were unresponsive and in traumatic cardiac arrest — apparently from the high-speed head-on crash.
The two drivers were killed at the scene. The driver of the American Taxi was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the yellow subcompact car was in traumatic cardiac arrest, and was transported to Northwest Community Hospital where the was pronounced dead.
Palatine Ambulance 84 was requested to the scene at 4:00 a.m.
Rolling Meadows firefighter/paramedics returned about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday to extricate the driver after Illinois State Police crash reconstruction investigators complete the on-scene part of the investigation.
Apparently the American Taxi van was traveling northbound in the northbound lanes of Route 53 when it was hit by a yellow subcompact car that was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 53.
There was no confirmation from police early Tuesday, but the incident appears to be an impaired driving crash.
There is no confirmation whether or not any other vehicles were also hit in the crash, or hit prior to the fatal crash.
